Award season is on: beat January blues with Hollywood worthy dresses

The Golden Globes officially launched the Award Season and it made some massive noise. We all discovered a sea of black Couture gowns worn by A-List Hollywood actresses who even walked the red carpet with social activists in order to show their support for victims of sexual harassment, abuse and inequalities. The Hashtag #whywewearblack sprouted all over Instagram, supported by Salma Hayek, Meryl Streep, Emma Watson and many more politically engaged actresses.

If it had been a “normal” award ceremony, all the dresses lent byCouture Houses would have gown back to their show rooms. But those gowns have outgrown their primary function to become symbols of social awareness and changes to come. Designers and celebrities are surfing the attention wave their all black red carpet appearance sparked in order to gain momentum. Vogue just announced that ” Condé Nast has partnered with Time’s Up and eBay for Charity to host an auction of Golden Globes gowns and tuxedos, with all proceeds benefiting the Time’s Up Legal Defence Fund, which connects victims of sexual harassment with legal representation and assistance. This Friday, January 19 at 9am EST, eBay shoppers will be able to bid on Reese Witherspoon’s Zac Posen gown, Tracee Ellis Ross’s Marc Jacobs dress and turban, Hugh Jackman’s Brionituxedo, Claire Foy’s Stella McCartney suit, and 35 further pieces donated by top designers.”
